Southsea in the frame with coastal works video

Have you seen this super video about the plans for £80m of coastal protection works at Southsea?

The Southsea Coastal Scheme has produced the clip with the help of the University of Portsmouth’s Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries.

It gives a lively overview of the project to shore up the coastline and revamp parts of Southsea.

According to the Southsea Coastal Schemee, the current coastal defences are at the end of their serviceable life - leaving 8,077 homes and 704 commercial properties in Southsea at risk from coastal flooding.

The new scheme, involving a number of different partners including Portsmouth City Council, aims to reduce the risk of major flooding now and for the next century.

It also aims to regenerate and enhance the public areas on the seafront and improve the setting of the historic and cultural features

An outline business case for the scheme has been approved, securing £5.9m of Government funding to develop designs for a 4.5km stretch of the coast.

Once they’ve been completed the Southsea Coastal Scheme will apply for £80m to build the new defences.
