Demand set to continue into 2018

A review of the housing market in 2017 has showed sustained demand for property with February and June the busiest months.

According to NAEA and ARLA Propertymark – an industry body of which we are a member – there was an average of 11 sales per branch nationwide in each of these months. The highest figure for the year before was 10 in March 2016.

Demand spiked at 425 house-buyers registered per branch in January and February of this year. There was an average of 380 prospective buyers registered per branch each month in 2017 compared with a figure of 365 in 2016.

Looking forward to 2018, NAEA Propertymark is keen to see how the abolition of Stamp Duty for first time buyers on properties under £300,000 will affect the market.

It says that policymakers also need to think about how to help others in the chain, such ‘second steppers’ and people who could downsize to free up larger homes for families.
