Seaside towns set for government cash
Several English seaside towns are to receive regeneration cash, the
Department for Culture, Media and Sport has announced.
The department has unveiled plans to grant £12 million under
the Sea Change Programme to the towns of Southport, Great Yarmouth,
Bridlington and Hastings, which will be invested in cultural and
heritage projects.
Culture and tourism minister Barbara Follett said: "The projects in
these four towns will help to attract new visitors and business
opportunities in the whole area as well as giving people pride in
their community and protecting their heritage."
Such investment may help improve the quality of life for those
living in and around these towns, something that could help boost
house prices.
Locations that have already received money under the scheme include
Blackpool, Torbay and Dover.
Last year's Halifax review of seaside town prices found that nine
of the ten highest-priced seaside towns were in the south-west of
England, with the list being topped by Sandbanks in Dorset.
