People 'more optimistic' about property market
People appear to be adopting a more positive outlook to the current
property market, a new poll has revealed.
The survey, conducted by Co-operative Bank Mortgages, the property
arm of the Co-operative Group, which has around five million
members, revealed that more than half of Britons (54 per cent)
became more optimistic about the housing market recently, with a
third of these (29 per cent) stating that this optimism started
within the last month.
John Hughes, director of retail banking for the Co-operative Bank,
said that there has been much speculation in recent times as to
whether "green shoots" are appearing in the housing market.
"The findings do indicate that consumer optimism is starting to
return, although there clearly still remains some way to go,"
stated Mr Hughes.
The comments follow the publication of the Mortgage Adviser
Confidence Index for the third quarter from Legal and General,
which conversely suggests that brokers are taking a small backward
step in confidence.
