'Home insurance essential with floods predicted'

As home all over the country are facing the possibility of a repeat
of the flooding of last summer, Halifax has warned homeowners to
ensure they have adequate home insurance cover.
A comprehensive home insurance policy is especially important for
those living in areas which were affected by the flooding
previously and for the five million people who are living in areas
deemed to be at high risk of downpours, according to Halifax's head
of underwriting David Rochester.
He added: "The number of homes at risk of flood has trebled in
recent years, but there are several simple steps homeowners can
take before a flood hits that can go a long way towards minimising
water damage.
"Those who are already flooded can also take measures to ensure
their property is returned to its normal state with as little
disruption as possible."
These include moving items of furniture upstairs, placing sandbags
outside doors and windows and switching off the mains supply of
water.
