Brits adopt DIY approach to moving home

Britons are increasingly taking their home moves into their own
hands, Lloyds TSB has found.
Its research shows that 52 per cent of homeowners surveyed by the
bank intend to shun the removal experts and shift their possessions
to their new property themselves.
In addition, one in ten respondents plan to cut out the middle man
and sell their property privately in order to avoid estate agents
fees.
On average, people will spend £7,434 on their home move, the
insurer found. However, five per cent of homeowners will fork out
over £15,000.
"In the current economic environment it's not surprising that
consumers are taking a more cost conscious approach to moving
home," Alison Burns, director of network mortgage sales at Lloyds
TSB, stated.
Abbey reported earlier this week that some two million people are
planning to capitalise on falling house prices by moving home in
the near future.
